If you’re looking for retail stores that accept Paypal as a form of payment then here’s a list and some links you can use to find the ones that are closest to you.

Before we get to the list though, you should know that you’ll probably need either a an Android smart phone or an Iphone in order to shop at any of them. Paypal has been testing its own in store POS terminals, but they’re not available everywhere. Most stores make use of the Paypal in store app on your phone to complete transactions. You can find out more about the Iphone app here the Android app here, and the Windows Phone app here.

The apps are completely free and paying with them is also totally free. Using them varies slightly from store to store but the basics are always the same. Paypal has a handy online user guide for both of these apps and a video you can watch explaining how they work.

Using the apps is the easy part. Finding local stores that accept them is slightly more difficult. The list is growing every day though and finding retailers will become easier as time goes on.

The List of Retail Stores That Accept Paypal

Here is the list of the first 21 major retailers who have adopted Paypal in store payments.

The above is only a partial list of stores that accept Paypal. Small retailers and restaurants are continually jumping on board too. There are two easy ways to locate all of the current stores in your area. The first is to use this online Paypal Store Locator.

The second way is to install one of the smart phone apps and use the locator within the app itself. It will ask to use your current location, to which you should say yes. Then the app will automatically generate a list of all of the stores that accept Payal in your neighborhood and some that are also within driving distance.

Another Way Use Paypal To Pay at Stores

There is also another method you can use to pay for things using your Paypal account. Paypal offers a debit card that is linked to your account, just like your bank account debit card. Unlike the in store app, you can use the debit card in any retail store that accepts credit cards. Plus you can use it to withdraw cash from any ATM at any time. It’s also completely free to use.

So you definitely can use a Paypal account to pay at retail locations. It’s just a matter of finding a location that accepts the in store app or getting approved for the debit card. Now figure out which option is better for you and get shopping! Don’t forget to buy me something too.

Paypal is working on a new system for in store payments called “Beacon” that will either replace or supplement the in store system.

It’s a bluetooth based system that automatically connects to a user’s device when they enter a store. It then lets them know that they are “checked in” with a notification on the phone. Once that is done all you have to do is tell the cashier that you want to pay with Paypal and they run the transaction. You don’t need to do anything else. No cards, passwords, or signatures. It really focuses on the convenience of a hands free transaction.

PayPal Beacon is a Bluetooth Low Energy device to connect to a customer’s PayPal app when they enter a store. With one vibration or sound on your phone, you’ll know you’re checked in. And when you’re ready to make a purchase, all you have to do is say you’re paying with PayPal and the transaction is automatically completed: no cash, cards, taps, or signatures required—all hands free.
